The 6-Step Process

Step 1: Identify Challenges

In this step, students are examining the future scene and brainstorming to identify as many as 16 diverse challenges that could arise from the future scene.

Step 2: Select an Underlying Problem

In this step, teams collaborate to select what they believe is the overarching problem related to the charge in the future scene. The underlying problem should address an issue that is global in scope, such that the rest of their booklet can address this particular issue.

Step 3: Generate Solution Ideas

Teams employ their creativity to design various solution ideas to address the underlying problem. These solutions receive additional points for being well-elaborated.

Step 4: Write evaluation criteria

Teams write five criteria that they will use to evaluate their best solution ideas in step 5.

Step 5: Evaluate solutions

Teams will evaluate their top 8 solutions using the criteria written in the previous step. This is currently completed using a grid format, but may employ the ALoU (Advantages/Limitations and how to overcome them/Unique opportunities) system in the future.

Step 6: Write an action plan

This step is the culminating point in the booklet. Teams expand upon the solution idea that received the most points in step 5, making sure to discuss its connection to the future scene and their underlying problem.
